Research
plan of the MTA-ME Geoengineering Research Group
The quantitative and qualitative protection and the sustainable utilization of groundwater resources is a priority global strategic issue of the XXI. Century. In Hungary, almost all our drinking waters and our world-famous mineral and thermal waters are originated from the surface, so our underground water resources have strategic importance. In the framework of the research program called “Complex protection and sustainable utilization of groundwater resources” the primary task of the MTA-ME Geoengineering Research Group during the 5-year-long support period (1 July 2017 – 30 June 2022) is to develop such research, exploration, modelling and evaluation methods which enable sustainable management of groundwater resources as natural resources and ensure efficient quantitative and qualitative protection. The main aim of the proposal of the Research Group connected to the National Water Science Research Program of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences was to support the complex protection and sustainable utilization of groundwater resources with international level research results and solutions that can be applied practice. The theoretical foundation, the research and development program of the four modules:
- Groundwater resources management,
- Karsthydrogeology,
- Hydrogeophysical model and method development,
- Environment-conforming barrier technologies
for controlling selective underground fluid flow is linked to areas requiring new research results, which are provided nationwide by the Revision of the Water Basin Management Plan (VGT2) and the Jenő Kvassay Plan (National Water Strategy).
